THE Associacion de Familiares y Enfermos de la Costa del Sol (AFESOL) (Association for the Family and the Ill) have announced the launch of a charity appeal to gather funds towards creating a centre where people with mental illness could be cared for, under the guidance of the Junta de Andalucia and the supervision of a specialised group.
The president of AFESOL, Conchi Cuevas, explained that at the moment, there are only six such centres in all of the municipalities of the Costa.
She pointed out that, although a few months ago, they received a grant of 60,000 euros from a bank, they are still a long way short of their target-figure of 180,000 euros, which will be required to purchase an appropriate property.
AFESOL was declared an ‘association for public interest’ in 2006 and an association of merchants and businesspeople in Benalmadena has contributed 500 euros to the appeal. Their president, Jose Montiel, appealed to local residents to support the initiative. |
