This weekend, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October, sees the 3rd Annual GAA football tournament, hosted at La Cala Hotel and Golf complex.
 |
For the unacquainted, GAA stands for Gaelic Athletic Association – the Irish amateur football body that has a massive participation and following throughout Ireland and overseas where the Irish have traditionally emigrated to: the USA, Australia and many parts of Great Britain. |
With the huge acquisition of property here on the Coast by the Irish in recent years, it comes as no surprise that Gaelic football has taken a foothold with a team of ex-pats consistently playing matches against teams from other parts of Spain, namely Madrid and Barcelona, northern Europe and of course Ireland.
This year’s tournament sees 7 teams participating, some of whom are travelling from Wales, Madrid, Ireland of course and two ladies teams will be represented.

For a weekend of football, craic and no doubt some pints of the “black stuff” head for the football pitch at La Cala Hotel and Golf complex from 1pm onwards on Saturday and Sunday. | |
