They were known in the Spanish-speaking world as ‘Los Picapiedra,’ and now the Sol Principe Hotel in Torremolinos has inaugurated a series of thematic zones inspired by the popular television cartoon characters we know as the Flintstones.
The initiative is part of a policy by the Sol Meliá hotel chain to personalise its services, aimed at satisfying the needs of all types of clients, especially families with young children. “The idea is to surprise the regular client with something completely new,” says Antonio Valdivia, the hotel's manager, “and we do this with surprising changes in the company’s policy with regard to activities.”
These thematic zones, a pioneering project in this country, are not limited to decoration alone, but include a comprehensive programme of activities aimed at children and young people.
Baby Rock
For the very young, aged up to four, there is the Baby Rock Club, while the Bam-Bam Club is for children aged between four and eight. The under twelve-year-olds have a Rock Sport Club, and the older children in their early teens have their own appropriately named Cool Club, where the 13 to 16-year-olds can practice sport in the daytime and dance the night away.
In April of 2003, the Sol Meliá hotel chain and Warner Brothers reached agreement about the creation of these thematic zones in various hotels belonging to the Sol group in Spain. Clients have thus been able to enjoy this new initiative since the summer gone by, where the best-known stone-age family created by Warner Brothers have shared space with the children of our own time.
