Compensation for immigrant familes following police station fire

The Ministry of the Interior has decided to compensate the families of the seven immigrants who died in a fire in the cells of the Málaga Police Station in December 2002 with more than 200,000 € in compensation.

The immigrants rights association, Acoge, says that single victims will get 37,500 € each while those who were married and with children will get 92,500 € each.

The immigrants had been recovered from a small boat and it was one of them who started the fire by setting his mattress alight. There were 37 people in the cell at the time.
