Bar and restaurant owners in Marbella are threatening to close their businesses unless more taxis are made available for their clients. The local hostelry association Aehma claims that on some occasions up to 30 people are forced to wait more than two hours at a taxi rank, and that the town is getting a bad reputation which is discouraging people from visiting it. One of Aehma's suggestions is that taxi drivers from cities such as Córdoba, where it is currently low season, should be allowed to come and work in Marbella but this has been criticised by Marbella taxi drivers, who say it has been tried in other towns and was unsuccessful because the new drivers don't know their way around. 280 taxi licences are currently operative in Marbella, and this is due to rise to 286 this week, but this figure is still deemed to be too low for a town of such a high population.
