The announcement that GB Airways is to reinstate the Gibraltar Heathrow air link is good news for all residents of Gibraltar and nearby Spain. This very popular route operated up until 2002, and its restoration will once again open up a wide range of world-wide flights operating from Terminal 1 in Heathrow, the busiest international airport in the world.
During the winter season, GB Airways, a franchise partner of British Airways, will depart daily from Heathrow at either 7.55 or 8 am, returning from the Rock at 8.15 pm and arriving in Heathrow at 10 pm (all times local).
In addition, GB Airways will continue to fly daily to Gatwick from Gibraltar, leaving at 12.45 pm and returning to the Rock at 3.45 pm. Summer flight times on both routes will be slightly different and there will also be additional flights to Gatwick during the summer season. Gatwick departures during the summer (May till October) will be daily at 2.40 pm and at 11.30 am on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, with returns from the Rock at 12.35 pm every day and at 4.10 pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays.
All GB Airways flights to Gibraltar will use the comfortable Airbus A320 aircraft, with both Club Europe and Euro Traveller seats available as well as an in-flight meal. One way tickets on both Gatwick and Heathrow flights start at £39 excluding taxes. However, in what proved to be a very popular introductory offer, GB Airways offered flights between Gibraltar and both airports from just £19 plus taxes for travel on Wednesdays and Saturdays between January 10th and February 16th, 2005. The flights on the other five days were from just £29 plus taxes during the same period, and many people have taken advantage of these special low prices.
GB Airways flights can be booked through travel agents and through GB Airways themselves (Telephone +350 79300, 956 779300 from Spain) or via the British Airways website (www.ba.com).
